So every work finds its rightful place
The fundamentals of hanging, sizing and conservation — together with personalised guidance from Lumora's curators.
Choosing the work is only half the journey. The other half is placing it right — the right spot, height and light — so the painting truly breathes in your space.
01
How to hang
- Centre the work at eye level — about 145–152cm from the floor in standing spaces; lower in living rooms where people sit.
- Above a sofa or bed: the work's width should be about two-thirds of the furniture below.
- For a gallery wall: keep an even 5–8cm gap and align to an imaginary axis.
02
Choosing the size
- A large wall needs a large work or a cluster — a too-small piece makes a wall feel emptier.
- High ceilings call for vertical compositions; wide spaces suit landscape formats.
- Leave breathing room around the work — the empty margin is part of the piece.
03
Conservation
- Avoid direct sunlight and damp; ideal humidity is 45–55%. Lacquer and silk are especially sensitive.
- Clean with a soft brush; never use harsh chemicals.
- Check the reverse and frame periodically; wipe ceramics with a dry cloth and avoid impact.
